"excel in this grace of giving" (2 Cor. 8:7)

Electronic giving

Planned giving by Standing Order is growing in popularity. Associated with higher levels of giving, Standing Orders offer stable income, smoother cash flow and ease of administration. Moreover, how we give reflects the value we place on our gift. Encouraging Standing Orders and, increasingly, Direct Debit, is an important aspect of planned giving.
In Israel the people brought the 'first fruits' of their fields to God in worship and gratitude (Deut. 26:1-11). Electronic giving through the bank, where appropriate to the church context, offers a modern application of this ancient principle. The benefits to both the giver and to the church are compelling while the absence of something to put on the offering plate is addressed by customisable weekly giving cards. Note also that giving by Direct Debit offers some advantages over Standing Orders but is currently limited although common in the Church in Wales. However, there are hopes for a new, national Parish Giving Scheme driven by Direct Debit.
