Operating a Gift Aid Scheme

If your church has never made use of Gift Aid or Covenants before, first you will need to:

• Register your scheme with HM Revenue & Customs Charities (formerly Inland Revenue): Click here to find out more.
• Choose whether to use the Diocesan Scheme or claim direct: Click here to find out more.

All churches will need to:

• Appoint someone to act as Gift Aid Secretary, to take responsibility for Gift Aid within the church. This person will also need to complete the Nomination of Authorised Signatory form, to enable them to sign the claim forms in due course.
• Ensure there is a complete audit trail for every donation included in the claim. Find out more in Records you must keep
• Ensure there is a valid Gift Aid Declaration for every Donor included in the repayment claim.
