Your Money Counts
Your Money Counts is "an introduction to the world of better money management". It is written by Keith Tondeur, until recently National Director of the money education charity Credit Action. The course is a six week practical course with an additional and optional week looking at what the Bible has to say on the subject. In the context of ever increasing personal debt and the explosion of consumer credit the promotion of financial literacy and the need for support services for those trapped in debt is a priority.
Your Money Counts is intended as a preventative study, helping individuals and families to avoid financial problems and to tackle the unexpected surprises immediately so that problems do not build. The structure of the study is as follows:
- Balance the Books and preparing a budget: working out how much you have to spend and to reconcile a bank statement
- Manage debt: Understanding the problem
- Deal with surprises: getting insurance cover
- Making your money work harder: pay less tax and earn more interest
- Dealing with temptation: how to shop more effectively and
save money
- Children, work and money matters: teaching money to children, the balance of work and family life
- Money from a spiritual viewpoint: biblical reflection on money matters.
Unfortunately Your Money Counts is now out of print. However, it may be possible to obtain remaindered copies from Credit Action (0207 436 9937). Alternatively enquire at Credit Action about the slim study guide to the excellent book Your Money and Your Life also written by Keith Tondeur. Credit Action works closely with the Consumer Credit Counseling Service which provides telephone and online debt advice.
