Study Exodus!
The Book of Exodus is the defining story of the Old Testament, immensely powerful and important to both Jews and Christians. We can think of the Exodus story as a tapestry made up of different threads. One thread in the Exodus tapestry is the story of a physical journey out of Egypt. Another thread is the spiritual journey of the people of Israel. Another might be the growth and development of Moses as a leader under God. It is the interweaving of the different threads that creates a rich picture, the powerful story that we find in the book of Exodus.
In the five sessions of Study Exodus! we look at just one rich thread in the tapestry that tells the Exodus story. This thread tells of Israel’s journey from poverty and slavery in Egypt to this same people bringing rich gifts to make beautiful the tent of God’s presence. It is a journey from an economy of greed and self serving in Egypt to a new way of living and trusting in the desert. This is God’s economy, the the manna where no one can accumulate too much and no one misses out.
- Study Exodus! is a narrative based Bible study. It is suitable for those new to the Bible or to a small group study while having much to offer more experienced study group members. See the Exodus Introduction for an overview
- The Exodus narrative contains some of the best known stories in the Bible. The Dreamworks video, The Prince of Egypt will offer less confident group members an overview of the Exodus story.
- The study uses optional Action Scenes, specially commissioned pictures, to assist group members to engage with the story.
- The study encourages group members to learn to tell their own money autobiography, how this thread of possessions and money influences the tapestry of our life.
- The study can be used as a standalone Bible study or to complement the Preach Exodus! all age resource for Sunday preaching and teaching. Group leaders who are looking for extra information or background material should be made aware of the Preach Exodus! material. They may need assistance from the Interaction coordinator on the planning group in order to access this material and navigate the web site.
- The studies can be accessed from the sidebar on this page. The files are paginated consecutively for ease of reference.
