Liturgical Resources
In the Bible there is a strong and intimate connection between the offering of financial gifts and the thanksgiving, praise and celebration of the people of God.
The Law of the Tithe (Deut 14:22-29), the great prayer of 1 Chronicles 29 and Paul's heartfelt and challenging
appeal to the Corinthian church to complete the collection for Jerusalem are discussed briefly in Why Prayer Matters.
Giving in Grace seeks to reflect this connection of giving and thanksgiving. Extensive liturgical material including confessions, collects and intercessions accompany the set texts in the preaching tracks for Matthew and 2 Corinthians. The Exodus resources have a slightly greater emphasis upon all age material. The material has been prepared primarily to enrich Sunday and midweek worship
but can also be used in a number of ways.
- These liturgical resources can enhance the Daily Office at Morning and Evening Prayer as well as midweek services.
- St. Peter, Woolton used the liturgical material to prepare two special services, a Service of the Word and a Eucharist. (See the prayer section of downloads for editable versions in MS Publisher
- The liturgical resources can enhance personal prayer. See the Prayer Options page for more ideas.
- With some preparation the resources can also be used to resource informal prayer groups meeting in the church or in homes. Again see the Prayer Options page for possibilities.
- The web page Prayers for the Programme has prayer resources that will be helpful including a specially commissioned Giving in Grace prayer.
Choosing the hymns and/or songs for a service of worship, to complement rather than hinder the selected theme, is not always an easy task. In order to help, some ideas have been put on the Music page of this website.
