Preaching and the Financial Presentation

Sensitive preaching with humour, humanity and honesty is foundational and can open up a difficult and sensitive area of discipleship for church members. The mistake is to preach about Christian stewardship as the expression of grace and then assume that people will naturally start to give realistically and sacrificially.

Motivational preaching alone, however powerful and Biblical will not automatically produce generous givers. People do not give into a vacuum. They need to know what they are giving to, they need guidance on how they can respond financially and an awareness of the difference that their giving makes.

Each preaching series can be complemented by a simple financial presentation in church which underlines the financial information in the brochure. This may not always be necessary but do not underestimate the lack of awareness in the congregation around the most basic financial details of church life. Church members need practical help and guidance in making the next step on their journey and experience has shown that a simple, visual presentation of financial need is effective.

For guidance and for PowerPoint and all age resources see Making the financial presentation page in the Interaction section of the web site.
