The preaching tracks

Giving in Grace provides four distinct preaching tracks which provide flexible options for clergy and planning groups to choose an appropriate preaching focus. To be effective the preaching programme will need to be carefully embedded into the liturgical pattern of the local church.

  • Preach Matthew! This track includes background sermon notes and sample sermons on Jesus parables and teaching in the Gospel of St Matthew. There is full provision of accompanying liturgical resources. The bible texts are from the Common Lectionary for Propers 19-24 (Year A). Please note that parishes select just three or four weeks from the resources available.
  • Preach Luke! This track includes sample adult sermons including two all age worship activities from the teachings and parables of Jesus within the Gospel of St Luke. There are accompanying small group study resources at Study Luke! The bible texts are taken from the Common Lectionary for propers 18-22 (Year C). Again parishes should select just three or four weeks from the resources available.
  • Preach 2 Corinthians! This track offers an opportunity for careful expository teaching on Paul’s sustained teaching on giving in 2 Corinthians 8 and 9. It is accompanied by small group materials, Study 2 Corinthians! and full liturgical provision.
  • Preach Exodus! The narrative nature of Exodus makes it ideal for all age worship. There are additional resources for adult learning, Sunday School material and for learning all together in church. The series has a related small group study, Study Exodus! and there is full liturgical provision. It also offers a standalone Harvest service based on the Feast of Tabernacles.

Each of the four preaching tracks includes background notes. These notes are not sermons to be read in church but notes to assist preachers in sermon preparation. They explore the theology and draw out some stewardship principles. Notes contain some technical language and occasionally a little Greek. Sample sermons are also available which can be used as they stand or adapted by preachers. They are largely independent of the background notes and so constitute an additional resource for sermon preparation. Within Preach Exodus! the all age resources replace sample sermons but the background notes can be used to prepare preaching for an all adult congregation.
