Preaching
Welcome to the Preaching home page. Preaching plays a strategic and foundational role within Giving in Grace. Given that the Bible generally and Jesus in particular has much to say about money and possessions preaching about money the focus is never simply to balance the books. Instead preaching speaks of an encounter with grace and an invitation to be caught up in the gracious giving of God. Securing the resources for the ministry and mission of the local church is part of a wider task of growing faithful, obedient and joyful givers. The preaching resources are extensive and may appear a little daunting. The following steps will help.
- See Why preaching matters for reflection on the importance of preaching in shaping Christian attitudes, thinking and spirituality in order to make informed choices around lifestyle and giving.
- The extensive preaching resources are summarised on the web page preaching tracks.
- The preaching guidelines web page suggests a number of issues that need to be addressed in the planning of a preaching programme, including harvest, children and teenagers.
- The preaching resources enable preachers to apply the principle of differentiation at the heart of Giving in Grace. We cannot effectively teach stewardship through preaching without consciously attempting to speak to the hearts, needs and motivations of a wide cross section of people.
- Fix the dates for the preaching series and plan the preaching programme early in the planning process.
- Note the importance of and fix a date for Thanksgiving Sunday.
As with all preaching the text must be life for the preacher before it can be life for the congregation. Encourage preachers to make use of the preparation passages to reflect prayerfully on the task and their own personal response to the challenge of discipleship in this area.
Global Recession
The global economic recession has had an impact on almost every church. The following link will take you to a web page that contains two example sermons that consider the issue of Giving in a Recession.
