The Annual Review Document
and the Gift Array
A gift array is a powerful tool for putting differentiation into practice. It provides a realistic and clear 'ask' to the congregation as part of a Giving in Grace initiative. By default the Annual Review Document does not include a gift array and the reason is twofold:
- Firstly the financial target at an Annual Review, especially one following a major stewardship initiative, may be relatively modest and achievable. A gift array to meet a modest target will diminish its significance as a tool for future use if it looks trivial. The rule of thumb is to use a gift array if the financial target facing the church is significant or stretching.
- Secondly, by default the Annual Review does not ask people to declare the level of their personal increase in giving on the commitment cards that are part of the written communication.
Only use a gift array if the financial challenge warrants one. If a gift array is required, it may be incorporated into the Annual Review Document from the model found in Section 4 of the Case Statement. If a gift array is not required then note the following:
- The gift array must be excluded from the back panel of the Review brochure.
- The Review letters must be edited to remove references to the guidance in the brochure.
