Thank You Letters

St Paul said 'thank you' to his financial supporters (Phil. 4:10-19); so should we. We think we say thank you enough. Mostly we don't. To all who return a response form, send a thank you letter within one week and ideally within 48 hours. There should be no hint of asking for more and your thanks should be uncluttered by other information such as Gift Aid forms. Don't delay or obscure the simplicity of warm appreciation.
Courtesy matters but the thank you letters also serve other important purposes. In particular, the thank you letter helps bridge our natural gap between our positive intent to take action and actually doing what we say we will do! In addition, the letter is not just about saying thank you for the gift; it also expresses our appreciation of the giver and therefore builds those relationships so important to ongoing stewardship in the church. One man expressed both his suprise and pleasure at being thanked for his pledged giving for the very first time, having attended the same church man and boy for 70 years.
