The Planning Group

'Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe' (Abraham Lincoln). The stewardship axe is sharpened with a committed, prayerful planning group that is totally supported by the church leadership. Ideally, this group is staffed and led by lay people, with clergy actively involved.
The members of the planning group do not only plan the programme: they are its biggest advocates and they will be the first givers, modelling the generosity they ask of others. The size of the planning group will reflect the congregation and its people resources. It must be large enough to manage the key tasks but small enough to gel together well in planning and prayer.
