Why visiting matters

Jesus told his first disciples, "Come and see" (John 1:39). It was an invitation to a discipleship conversation. Home visiting is about open-ended conversations around the financial needs of the church and its ministry agoals. The aim is to encourage a personal response, not to advise, persuade or argue the merits of the case . Stewardship is an invitation to respond to God's grace; visiting is part of that invitation.
Home visiting is an optional but rewarding feature in the architecture of a Giving in Grace programme. Indeed at one time such visiting was commonplace in stewardship programmes. Memories of those programmes can be postive and occasionally negative. There may be anxieties; home visiting may not be appropriate in your context. But it is worth having a planning group discussion using the paper Come and See to explore the possibility.  Please be clear that this optional home visiting is different from the personal follow up visiting which is an essential part of Giving in Grace.
